Division Sales Manager -Midwest

Position Purpose

Acting on own initiative, the Division Sales Manager is responsible for the sales activity within assigned division of the National Sales organization.  This position drives division sales, market share penetration, and profitability for all channels through leadership and direction of our sales team and distributor management.

Functional Responsibility

  • Understands, communicates, and shares Company vision throughout division/organization and provide cross-functional perspective, direction, and support
  • Provides leadership and personal support; coaches, guides, nurtures and develops the right people
  • Drives Company focus, manages culture, encourages strong work ethic, and fosters an environment of trust and respect
  • Develops group and individual performance plans in alignment with Company goals and objectives; communicates clearly and defines individual and group objectives; maintains level of productivity in unit
  • Trains employees to do their job; sets standards for work performance
  • Monitors performance and provides feedback to direct reports through formal and informal performance feedback; regularly communicates with staff to achieve mutual understanding and desired results
  • Recognizes and addresses performance strengths and limitations of subordinates
  • Manages employee attendance to ensure compliance with Company standards; approve/monitor overtime
  • Communicates and supports Company policies and decisions in a positive manner
  • Develops staffing needs, selects new employees, makes recommendations in job evaluation and compensation, and recommends termination actions
  • Conducts team meetings with department employees; includes monthly safety topic, ISO, DOE and other applicable training
  • Handles employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner
  • Provides employees with a safe, comfortable, and rewarding work environment

Prepares and monitors department overhead budget

Essential Duties

  • Demonstrates principled leadership and sound business ethics, shows consistency among principles, values, and behavior, builds trust with others through own authenticity and follow-through on commitments, drives results and success, conveys a sense of urgency
  • Coaches and mentors Region Sales Managers to build effective teams that enable them to respond quickly to emerging customer opportunities and provide for seamless execution of the company’s business processes in an effort to exceed customer expectations

 

  • Defines levels of accountability and effectiveness for current and future performance of dedicated sales team, assigns responsibilities, delegates to and empower others, removes obstacles, allows for and provides needed resources, coordinates work efforts when necessary, monitors progress
  • Contributes to the organization’s profitability, ensures division volume and profit goals are achieved while remaining within established budgets, makes decisions that enhance the organization’s financial position, establishes budgets, uses financial and quantitative information effectively to manage P&L statements, budgeting, forecasting, pricing, and deal structures
  • Cultivates and maintains effective business relationships with distributor upper management and top trade partners
  • Identifies critical, high payoff strategies and prioritize team efforts accordingly, uses information about the market and competitors in making decisions, recognizes strategic opportunities for success, adjusts actions and decisions for focus on critical strategic issues
  • Collaborates with HR Business Partner to develop high performing sales team, staffing strategies, recruiting, performance management, career development, coaching, training, and employee relations
  • Submits required reports and expenses in a timely manner, meets all prescribed deadlines
  • Performs all other duties as needed or required to maintain and grow profitable business within the assigned account base

Non-Essential Duties

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in Business Administration, Sales and Marketing, or related field required
  • 7-10 years of combined wine supplier (preferably top 20 wine company) and/or distributor management experience selling wine, building brands, and conducting customer calls
  • 5-7 years of experience managing direct reports and distributors

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership and successful track record of achieving results
  • Market and distributor knowledge; excellent communication, presentation, customer service, organizational, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to understand and apply market intelligence to sales strategy
  • Read and evaluate sales and marketing reports, analysis, and trends
  • Detail oriented and results driven
  • Intermediate to advanced skillset with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to navigate the Internet/Intranet and use Nielsen/BDN data for effective business development
  • Must possess in-depth working knowledge of wine and the wine industry

 

Certificates and Licenses

  • Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and vehicle required with an acceptable driving record

Working Conditions

  • Requires ability to travel frequently and flexibility in schedule to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • This is a remote position that requires working out of a home office
